Allison, a typical wife and mum, had her world turned upside down by a devastating cancer diagnosis that gave her less than two years to live. The doctors’ prognosis was so grim that her life insurance was paid out and Allison, her husband and young son started taking their final bucket-list holidays.
But Allison wasn’t ready to give up hope when the medical system ran out of ideas, so she gathered her strength and decided to look for alternative treatments, even if it meant breaking the law. With cannabis oil still illegal, Allison found herself in a fight for her life that took her to the backstreets of Nimbin and the black market to access her medicine.
The chance she took led to a remarkable tale of triumph over adversity.
This story of courage, determination and gentle humour reminds us what it was like only a few short years ago, when ordinary people went to extraordinary lengths to get the medical help they needed
Ten years on, Allison is not just alive but free of cancer, cannabis oil is now legal, and thousands of Australians are using it every day.

Dr Katelaris was struck off the medical register in 2005 for conducting research into the drug. He has been arrested dozens of times and charged for a range of drug offences.
Since then he has aggressively pursued his belief that cannabis can be used to treat illnesses and has focused on producing an oil that alleviates the symptoms of childhood epilepsy.
And he has done it knowing he could be arrested again.
It might seem extreme, but for the man making medical cannabis for kids, he says the risk is worth it.
“I haven’t sought to avoid legal troubles,” Dr Katelaris says in a documentary called The Pot Doctor. “Our primary motivation is to actually advance the cause of medical cannabis.
Dr Katelaris says he believes so strongly in the medical benefits of cannabis that he didn’t have a problem giving up his medical license.
He claims he was told to choose between his research and being a registered doctor.
“It wasn’t a very hard decision,” he explained. “Seeing the therapeutic affects of what we were doing and the clear superiority of cannabis therapeutics whether they are used a sole agent or a combination agent.

I've been sent in the past week or so, a couple of books by local authors and I thought I'd give them a quick plug. The first one is called 'Terminal to Remission with Cannabis Oil: An Australian Success Story, written by Allison McMaster. She's from Mooloolah Valley, here on the Sunshine Coast. She says; 'She's typical mum, but she had her world turned upside down when she got a cancer diagnosis. And when she felt like she was running out of options, she decided that she would try cannabis oil and as the title suggests, it is an Australian success story. You'll also just really enjoy the book because Allison is just sort of told her life story, which is something just, it's really enjoyable. But if this is a path that you're on, I think you might be, you might be interested to read this one 'Terminal to Remission with Cannabis Oil', by Allison McMaster and you can just Google it and you'll find Allison straight away.

"My wife says that reading your book has helped her understand the uncertainty of what can happen after traditional cancer treatments. Thank you for your insight".

"I loved tour book. Not only that your journey to remission is inspiring, but the style of your writing is very smooth. It reads like an honest ride through illness, family relationships, inner thoughts... and all of its complications and victories. Different to some other books on the topic, it's easy to identify with your struggle and your successes. There are a number of situations, not just illness, that are amazingly similar. I'm sure my wife will connect to it too. Well done!

I was kindly gifted this book by my sister in law Esther who lives in Mooloolah Valley, Queensland Australia as the lady who wrote it visited Esther for a massage. Allison’s story is real, touching, heartfelt, funny and at times sad as she journals her life experience with a rare cancer and given 2 years to live by her specialist.
Reading this type of story reminds me of the importance of writing about our own personal experiences with Cannabis as medicine and how powerful and life changing this type of experience can be - not only for the person and family itself but also those who meet and share their own healing stories along the way. It gives courage and determination to change outdated laws for others so they may grow their own healing Cannabis.
I enjoyed reading this very real story by Allison and recommend it to anyone who is cautious and wary of Cannabis being used alongside conventional medicine for wellbeing.
Allison's diagnosis came at a time when she was at her fittest - a shock and she sought her own Cannabis in a time of it being illegal in Australia. This was outside her natural comfort zone as it often is for many who have believed the ‘war on drugs’ that has plagued Cannabis for decades globally.
Australia now has legal Medical Cannabis access with quality products available along with trained doctors with experience to assist and guide those wanting a natural alternative to healing.
Today Allison is cancer free, fit and enjoys her family/life in The Mooloolah Valley.

A fantastic narrative, both informative and educational about the evolution of the legal use of medicinal cannabis in Australian healthcare. Coming from the same region as the author I found the text very relatable, envisioning the settings she described. I highly recommend Allison’s book as it takes you on a wave of emotions to an unanticipated ending. A very resourceful read which highlights how far the healthcare sector has come regarding this issue. J Wyatt
